A Message from the Dean

Last summer, mold was discovered throughout the periodicals collection and in other selected areas of the book collection. While it was easier to clean and maintain the climate control in the book collection, the mold in the periodical collection was pervasive and the area had to be isolated. The decision to withdraw paper titles was made easier by the enormous growth in electronic publishing. Although many bound volumes were selected for withdrawl, others will be retained and  professionally cleaned starting this month.
While no library wants a mold infestation, this event gave us an opportunity to work with the faculty evaluating each title in the collection for retention or withdrawl. It has also given the Library the opportunity to expand its electronic periodical holdings.

New Library Web Site

A newly designed web site is under construction. The new site will have a very different look and feel as well as improved site-wide access to key resources. New features will include a "New @ the Library" section with library news, events and new book/product information; a consolidated "Services" page and a comprehensive "Research Help" page providing tutorials, research guides, library instruction, class outlines and more. In order to increase the effectiveness and usability of the site, there will be a test period during which patrons can preview the site and provide feedback. The library will "officially" launch the new site at the beginning of the Summer 2004 session.

Look for a link to the new site on the Library's current homepage: http://bluehawk.monmouth.edu/library.
