Media Collection Information
The Monmouth University Library began collecting for a multimedia collection in the fall of 2006. The purpose of the Media Collection is to provide media to the Monmouth University community in a centralized, controlled atmosphere. We hope to help enhance the educational experience on campus by having quality audio/visual material accessible to the faculty and students.
The collection has grown considerably since we began collecting materials. You can browse the cases of materials on shelves in the hallway next to the Reference Desk, but the physical DVD, tape, or CD will be at the Circulation Desk. Just take the case up to the Circulation Desk and the Library staff will insert the media for you to check out.
Faculty can check out media for one week with an option to renew the material if it is not requested. Students can borrow material with their library cards for use in the Library or to check out for 48 hours, no renewals. Administrators and other employees can check out media for one week, no renewals.
Please be advised that some media material is extremely expensive (as much as $300 for one DVD), and that borrowers will be responsible for items lost or damaged. Also, the charge for materials returned late is $1.00 a day.
Televisions with VHS and DVD players are in four viewing stations on the first floor near the Reference Collection, and the DVDs can be viewed on any computer in the Library. Headsets can be checked out at the Circulation Desk.
Currently, we have close to 300 DVDs, VHS tapes and CDs available to check out for use in the Library and classrooms. You can see a regularly updated list of titles by subject here . If you want to view all the newest media material at any given time, please search our catalog under “Subject Heading” and type in “Media Collection” for a full alphabetical list.
Most of the material is purchased with “Educational Rights”. However, some of the material will
have “Performance Rights” for showing to larger groups and events on campus. The Provost’s
January 31, 2008 memo regarding the Use of Film on Campus provides further explanation of the rights
and guidelines.
If you know of material that would be useful to the curriculum, please fill out a Purchase Request Form for Media or submit an online form here. Provide as much information as you can so we are able to find
the best source.
If you would like to donate material to the Media Collection, please fill out the Form for Donation of Media. While not all material will be added to the collection, we
encourage donations and hope to expand the media material available to the Monmouth University
community in this way.
Please contact Lisa Coats 732-923-4537 if you have any further questions
regarding Monmouth University Library’s Media Collection.
