Monmouth University faculty (adjuncts must be currently teaching), administration, and staff with valid ID cards may also borrow through Interlibrary Loan. Persons with delinquent or blocked accounts may not borrow through Interlibrary Loan.

What may be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan?
We accept requests for books and for articles from journals and newspapers that are not owned by the Monmouth UniversityLibrary.

What materials may not be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan?
Libraries generally do not lend the following kinds of materials through Interlibrary Loan:

  • Reference books, rare books, special collections materials, etc.
  • Microfilm
  • Issues and bound volumes of periodicals and newspapers
  • Government Documents
  • Videotapes
  • Reserve Books
  • Repeat orders from the same patron for the same materials. (Copyright regulations prohibit repeat orders for journal articles by the same patron for a 3 year period.)
Please note that materials owned by the Monmouth University Library and textbooks available at the University Bookstore may not be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan.

How are requests submitted?
Requests for books and articles may be submitted by completing the electronic forms at the following websites:
Book Requests
Article Requests
Please take note that patrons must check the library's holdings to ensure that the Guggenheim Library does not already own the needed materials.

Is there a limit to the number of requests that may be submitted?
You are permitted to submit up to 5 requests per week in any combination of books and articles.

How long does it take for Interlibrary Loan materials to come in?
On average, materials arrive from the lending library in 2 to 3 weeks. However, the amount of time needed to receive ordered materials varies. When an item is requested, there is no guarantee the item will be available for loan and that it will be received in an expeditious manner. ILL services are completely dependent upon other institutions' workloads and other conditions beyond our control. Please note that there is a cost to the Library for every Interlibrary Loan request. You will be informed via phone or email when materials are available to be picked up at the circulation desk.

How long are loans for?
Loans are generally for one month. The due date is set by the lending library, not by the Guggenheim Library. Some materials may be stipulated as "in library use only" by the lending library. Please take note that ILL requests may be placed no later than three weeks prior to the end of the semester.

What is the policy regarding renewals?
In order to renew Interlibrary Loan materials, email the Interlibrary Loan department at least 1 week prior to the current due date. If the item is already overdue, it cannot be renewed. The ILL department will request renewal from the lending library and respond to you via email with either a renewal date or a negative reply. Interlibrary Loan materials are only allowed one renewal which is at the discretion of the lending library.

Where should Interlibrary Loan materials be returned?
They should be returned to the circulation desk or the interlibrary loan office.

What is the policy regarding overdue/lost materials?
You are responsible for any overdue, damaged, or lost charges imposed by the lending library.

**Failure to observe Monmouth University Library policies and the policies of lending libraries may result in the loss of ILL privileges or in the blocking of registration or graduation.**
