Lewis Mumford

Middle Years: 1930-1950

Lewis Mumford was featured on the cover of Time Magazine in 1938. Among his major publications are the four books of the Renewal of Life series, which he worked on between 1934-1951: Technics and Civilization, The Culture of Cities, The Condition of Man, and The Conduct of Life. Other writings by Mumford include a biography of Melville and one of his son, Green Memories, The Story of Geddes Mumford (1947), the editing of a book on Emerson, and his published correspondence with Van Wyck Brooks and Frederic Osborn.
