Lewis Mumford

Later Years: 1950-1990

Lewis Mumford garnered many honors in his later years, a sample of which include: a National Book Award (1962) for The City in History; The Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964; a 1965 LLD from the University of Edinburgh; a doctorate of architecture from the University of Rome in 1967; the National Medal for Literature (1972). For his town planning in Britain he was in 1975 made an honorary knight commander of the Order of the British Empire; he received a Prix Mondial in 1976.
